Meet Carrie Stewart...

Well, I certainly took the road less travel by. Has it made all the difference? Who knows. But it’s sure been interesting…

Background

I was born and raised on a farm in NC, the daughter of a high school football coach & a social worker. I then attended a university that I will decline to name, as we North Carolinians tend to be slightly polarized by our college sports fandom. There, I majored in both Biology and Environmental Policy.

Ancient (Career) History

My first job out of school was precisely what you’d expect – and by “precisely” I mean “not at all”: I was hired by the NFL – yes, the National Football League – as a television/film producer. Next, I joined ESPN, producing lifestyle features on sports stars and celebrities – interviewing everyone from Justin Timberlake to Michael Strahan to Snoop Dogg.

In search of a slightly more predictable life, I later transitioned into marketing, working with clients in nearly every industry imaginable – from craft beer to pharmaceuticals.

Now to the part where it starts to makes sense...

Since college, I’ve lived in Santa Barbara, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, & Miami but finally returned to NC, realizing that all I’d ever wanted had been in my backyard from the start. I now live in the middle of the woods, in Hillsborough, with my husband, Craig – an Army veteran who now works in medicine – along with our dog named Cat and her new brother, Wolfy.

…Yes, life’s a far cry from my days attending post-Oscar Hollywood galas, hobnobbing with rock stars at Super Bowls, or pitching executives at Fortune 500 companies. And I love every second of it.

...And the start of Starterwood

…A long, long time ago: Me, in my kindergarten “what do you want to be when you grow up” artist outfit. And my “little” brother (now about a foot taller than I am 😂).

I’ve always been creative at heart –  despite the winding career path, & I find it slightly ironic that I’ve become exactly what I insisted on dressing as for my kindergarten “career day”: An artist.

I am fairly sure I was into upcycling before “upcycling” was word. My appetite for sustainable living is likely obvious by now, but beyond that, I have a vast appreciation for all things vintage and am fascinated by the oft-mysterious history of my many finds at antique markets, vintage shops, & thrift stores. I love turning something nobody wants into something beautiful & interesting.

Likely fueled by the insatiable curiosity that drives so much that I do, I’m also a relentless problem-solver. This has not only manifested in a penchant for repurposing and a tool shed that shocked even my own construction contractor — but ultimately, it’s what will help me help you in finding the right answer to what you want.

But enough about me. Let's talk about you!
